Welcome to M.E.N. Unwind - our selection of some of our favourite Manchester Evening News reads this Saturday morning to help you relax and reflect. Grab a brew, take some time for yourself and dive in - your weekend starts here

For Manchester’s many bars, restaurants and pubs, we are coming up to what can be a bit of an uncertain period.

A story this week highlighted how a customer at Sud Pasta in Sale left a two-star review because they did not serve vodka. The customer wrote in the review that they felt it was ‘just ridiculous’ that the Italian restaurant did not serve the spirit - a decision made by staff because it was not ‘of the country’ - and that they ‘left immediately’ after.

I think we just need to all remember to be mindful, respectful and understanding of those serving us and making our food. They’ve had it tough for the last few years due to the cost of living and the impact of the pandemic - let’s not throw a strop just because one restaurant chooses not to serve vodka. It’s hardly the end of the world.

The beer critic, who is also the co-editor of independent beer magazine Pellicle Magazine, is now ready to share his insights with the world with his latest book on Manchester's best beers. “We also have restaurants like Higher Ground, who have a whole page of their wine list dedicated to interesting beers to pair with their food. As a city, it kind of covers all bases in terms of beer culture from the really traditional to the really modern. They exist quite well, they all fit together like a big jigsaw puzzle - it makes it just as interesting as it is exciting.

“The castle’s most haunted room is The Tapestry Room and visitors often claim they can hear footsteps outside in the corridor or see the door handle turn when no one's there,” Emma adds. “People have even reported feeling a chill in the room and hearing a child crying - scary stuff indeed.”
