More and more scammers are using cryptocurrency in their cons, and a new scam involving Bitcoin looks real.
It's a scam that WGAL News 8 Consumer Reporter Brian Roche has not seen before.A viewer named Kathleen sent Brian an email that she received, claiming that her email was affected by a data leak from various crypto projects. In fact, it claimed that there have been"several instances of your personal data leakage."The email then offered her a report on the leaks and compensation in Bitcoin. Right now, 0.3 Bitcoin is worth just over $8,000. The email provided a link to get the money.

WGAL determined the link was safe and clicked on it. What we got was another message, similar to the first, using the name of Binance.
Binance is a real crypto trading platform, which is currently facing a lot of international legal challenges. However after tracking down the source of the email, WGAL's investigation showed the email was not from Binance and appeared to be a scam.Cryptocurrency is still a big mystery to most consumers, and scammers will continue to try to take advantage of that.
If you are certain you have never had anything to do with crypto, do not fall for a phishing scam like this.
