This group is creating safe places in nature for the queer community

Michael joined WRTV in October 2015 as a content coordinator. He transitioned to the WRTV Digital Team as a digital content producer in August 2021.

MONROE COUNTY — Hiking, kayaking, and birding all sound like relatively safe activities to most folks. But safety in the outdoors isn’t always guaranteed, especially for members of marginalized communities. It’s something Tyler Moore knows firsthand.

Moore is the founder of Queer Indiana, a community organization dedicated to cultivating and growing safe places in nature for the queer community. Authenticity can be a challenge for some members of the LGBTQ community according to Moore. It is part of the reason Queer Indiana was created. As Queer Indiana continues to grow both in size and diversity, its calendar of events is also evolving to include more educational elements.
