Yorkshire author Philip Mantle is convinced that three grey extraterrestrials captured two Mississippi shipyard workers in 1973

are notoriously difficult to crack after half a century. They are not made any easier when the suspects were said to have “mitten or pincer-like appendages” and to have escaped in a rugby ball-shaped flying saucer.

“But it wasn’t the police. It was an object descending,” he says. “It had blinding lights on it and stopped about 2ft above the ground. An opening appeared and yet more light poured out and both gentlemen had to shield their eyes. “They’re usually in an out-of-the-way place or in their own home. This took place right next to the main highway. As Parker and Nixon were driving up that night, they passed another car that was parked there. It had a courting couple in it, shall we say. It was a well-known local spot.”

Most of the 40 or so witnesses in the book have come forward or been tracked down in the past five years. Both men reported feeling a “scratch” or “prick” similar to an injection. Mantle says Parker recalled a female-looking creature with a very long middle finger opening his mouth and “poking around inside there”. “He said he felt something stick in his foot and it hurt. It felt as if the life was being drained out of him.
