The Subaru Sport Drive e-Tune, along with Toyota’s equivalent product, is compatible with second-generation BRZ and GR86 models

The GR86 and BRZ now offer software upgrades for better throttle and shifting performance. Manual models get sharper throttle response for easier blipping during spirited downshifts. Automatic versions allow quicker manual-mode downshifts thanks to expanded RPM tolerance. Toyota Gazoo Racing and Subaru have announced a small treat for current GR86 and BRZ owners—at least for those in Japan .

This tweak also smooths out blipping during downshifts, making the experience more intuitive and rewarding, especially for track-day purists or anyone who enjoys a perfectly timed heel-toe maneuver. Meanwhile, owners of the six-speed automatic models aren’t left out. Their cars will gain expanded RPM tolerance during manual-mode downshifts. The result? Faster, smoother gear changes without the fear of over-revving the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine that powers both cars.
