Lexus is dropping the LS, but lightly used examples like this make a fine substitute for new.
Remember when Lexus was reserved? This generation of LS remembers. This example has low mileage and has lived in California since new.The options list is as long as the wheelbase and includes the must-have premium stereo.
Toyota is currently positioning its Century lineup as a stand-alone brand in some markets, with the stated intent of allowing Lexus to become a little more playful. But, arguably, Lexus used to be at its best when it was taking things very, very seriously.Such is the case with this flagship LS460 L that's cropped up recently on Bring a Trailer . It's a handsome beast, unadorned by the huge grilles and overly fussy styling elements of the modern luxury era. With discreet looks and discreet V-8 power, it's a car that epitomizes the brand's former slogan, 'The relentless pursuit of perfection.'This example has just 23K miles on its odometer and has spent its entire life in the forgiving climate of California up until now. It has a clean history, free of accidents, and presents in excellent condition. The interior is swathed in wood and leather, all executed with typical-for-the-time Lexus build quality. It's also absolutely crammed with features, including heated and ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a powered rear sunshade, and onboard navigation. The stereo is a Mark Levinson premium unit, and it's so good it might be worth buying this car just to sit in it and listen to your favorite artist. With its 19 speakers and a CD player, you can get a far richer sound than any streaming audio. It's an audiophile's dream.Happily, this mobile studio also happens to move with smooth alacrity. The 4.6-liter V-8 develops 380 horsepower and feeds it through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. This LS also has Lexus's integrated traction control and stability management system. It's a cruiser, but it can gather a bit of speed when the situation calls for it.Finished off with 19-inch five-spoke wheels that are handsome, not flashy, this is a gloriously subtle car. In fact, it has a lot in common with the old V-12–powered Century limousine, just with four fewer cylinders.Subtlety is not much in abundance these days, and it might just be the most luxurious attribute of them all. This Lexus offers it up in spades. The auction ends on March 25.➡️ Skip the lot. Let Car and Driver help you find your next car.Shop New Cars Shop Used Cars
