There’s always something different or new to do in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles area.

The 2023 Sherman Oaks Street Fair is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 15 on Ventura Boulevard. The event attracted a large crowd who enjoyed live music, food vendors, carnival rides and a vendor marketplace. Bring your recyclable clothes, handbags, sheets, shoes and towels, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 12.

The Galpin Motors 9th car show includes muscle cars, classics, Euros, exotics, JDM — also known as Japanese Domestic Market cars — Kustoms, lowriders, hot rods and off-road vehicles, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 15. The event also includes Metallica’s lead vocalist James Hetfield’s collection , electric vehicles, a Volkswagen car show, a children’s zone and entertainment. The vehicles will be shown at nine different locations along Roscoe Boulevard. The event was last held in 2019. Free admission.

The theme for October is “Spooky Market,” 6-10 p.m. Oct. 21. Upcoming: “Holiday Market,” 5-9 p.m. Dec. 2. Location, 911 San Fernando Road , San Fernando. The Halloween event features illuminated jack-o-lanterns set in theme installations on a 3/4 of a mile walking trail, with live carving demonstrations, a souvenir shop, food trucks and, for ages 21 and older, the “Spookeasy” a full bar. Hours: 6-10 p.m. on selected dates through Oct. 31. No event on Oct. 17. Admission is by timed ticket only. No tickets sold at the door. No refunds. Rain does not cancel event. Parking pass $9.99 . Fun meets science as you wander through 10 plus rooms and immerse yourself into a world of bubbles. Hours: timed admission on various dates; extended through Dec. 3. The Little Landers Historical Society presents a talk by local historian Craig Durst about the woman who lived for 18 years on the channel island of Haraasnga, also known at San Nicolas Island, after her people were removed from the island in 1835, 1 p.m. Oct. 14. A fictional story based on her time alone — or not — on the island is Scott O’Dell’s 1960 novel “Island of the Blue Dolphins,” winner of the 1961 Newbery Award. Donation $3.
