) - 911 transcripts reveal what Johnny Bowman Jr., owner of Bowman’s Auto Air, told 911 operators after he got into a shootout with Semmes police inside his business on Jan. 4.Shortly after 3 a.m., Bowman, who was shot five times, made his first call to 911, telling the operator he had been shot and was bleeding bad.
When the operator asked who shot him, he said he didn’t know and “they were in the building. I saw flashlights and... the shooting started.” Eight minutes later, at 3:14, the transcripts show someone else made a call from inside the business. The unknown caller told the operator, “I need an ambulance here, immediately. I have someone here who has been shot.”The clock hits 3:30: Bowman called a second time and is slurring his words. He says, “The police are here. I’ve been shot. I’m bleeding everywhere. Somebody-- gotta get me to a hospital.” According to the transcripts, Bowman’s first call to 911 from inside the building came in at 3:06 a.m. Timestamps show Bowman made his third call to 911 at 4:04 a.m., nearly an hour later and he was still asking for help. In that call, Bowman said, “Look, I just got this phone to work. I am at 7461 in Semmes. And these blanks are accusing me of shooting them. I didn’t shoot anybody. They shot first! And I’ve got this guy out here yelling at me. And I’m bleeding out. I’m just trying to get help, man. They shot first!”However, Semmes Police Chief Todd Freind told us a different story earlier this week. “But when they got in, they announced their intentions, started searching the place, and then they found the camper. They were going to look in the camper on their way out, and they noticed movement inside, and they started announcing to whoever was inside the trailer to come out and that’s when Mr. Bowman opened the door and opened fire,” Freind said. As Bowman’s third call continues, he tells the operator, “Let them in here. They are trying to clear this place like, like some criminal has been in here. They came in my building and never identified themselves. All I saw was lights. I turned the light on in my trailer and they start shooting!” Bowman said he can’t move because if he does, he’ll bleed out and tells the operator, “I have no harmful intent to these police officers whatsoever! None!”Chief Freind confirmed two officers were on the scene during the gunfire. He also says they are not on administrative leave.
