Queensland has breathed a sigh of relief at the Blues decision to axe one man, with a former teammate of his backing him to win his spot back.

And with that remark, Queensland playmakers have rallied around axed Blues halfback Nicho Hynes, with Cameron Munster admitting he was somewhat relieved his former Melbourne teammate would not be squaring off against him.Hynes, the reigning Dally M medallist by a landslide margin, made his State of Origin debut off the bench in Game I, however he was only used for the final 12 minutes at centre.

“It’s disappointing for him, he’s played really good footy for 18 months and I was really happy for him with the way he’s been playing for the Sharks,” Munster said.“But at the end of the day I’m happy he’s not playing – obviously I’m playing against the Blues. He’s going to be obviously disappointed but he’ll go back and play really good footy for the Sharks, I’ve got no doubt about that at all.

While debate has raged over the Blues halves combination in the absence of Cleary, the Queensland scrumbase has remained ever consistent while Munster and skipper Daly Cherry-Evans have remained fit and firing. By that point, he will be 36, and should he decide to hang up the boots then – or in the representative arena before that – Munster will be on the hunt for a new halves partner.North Queensland star Tom Dearden replaced an injured Munster for the series decider last year, setting up the opening try and defending bravely to garner 18th man selection this year.
