Seven innocent bystanders were shot around 11 p.m. near Dauphin and Joachim streets, just hours after more than a hundred thousand people attended Joe Cain Day.The first call to 911 came in at 11:01. The caller told the operator they were downtown on Dauphin Street and somebody who got shot was laying on the ground.
The operator asked if the shooter was around. The caller responded, “Not that I know of. Everyone cleared the area once the shots went off.” The dispatcher then asked the caller if they saw what happened. The caller said they only heard the shots and then saw one person laying on the ground and someone screaming. According to the transcripts, the second call to 911 came in 11 minutes after the first one. The caller told the operator her friend was shot in the leg and she was begging for an ambulance. “Please! My friend is shot in her leg! We need an ambulance. The ambulance is not coming quick enough. Can you please have the ambulance come here immediately?” the caller said. The day after the gunfire, Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis and Police Chief William Jackson held a news conference. Chief Jackson said detectives were looking through surveillance video and they would release images if they were able to identify a suspect who is recognizable — but that hasn’t happened, nine days into the investigation.Fox10 News has counted more than 15 cameras in the area of the shooting and at least two businesses have told Fox10 News their cameras recorded video of the gunfire. This is an active investigation and a top priority for us to see this case through. We are actively pursuing leads and expect a resolution to this case soon, but any specific details surrounding the investigation aren’t able to be disclosed publicly yet. We’ll let you know once we have more“I am receiving regular updates on this case directly from Chief Jackson and will remain closely engaged as the investigation moves forward. There have been meaningful developments over the past several days, but in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure those responsible are held fully accountable, we cannot share additional details at this time. I have complete confidence in our investigators. They are working diligently and methodically to bring the perpetrators of this senseless violence to justice, and I am confident they will do so.”UPDATE: Authorities say suspect who shot at deputies now bookedMonroeville man caught by wife with 13-year-old pleads guilty to sex trafficking ‘My mom is only human’: Daughter of missing woman who was found ‘alive and well’ 24 years later breaks her silence‘Much more dangerous’: Authorities reveal kidnapping suspect’s true identity, gang ties
