There’s a new name atop the list of Alabama’s fastest-growing cities.
over the past few years - grew by 5.5%, good for No. 3 on the list.
There was a bit of a gap between Athens and the next closest city, Opelika, a neighbor of Auburn. It grew by 3.6% from 2021 to 2022. Daphne was No. 5, with a growth rate of 3.1%. It was tied with Birmingham-area suburb Chelsea, which also grew by 3.1%. Chelsea was one of two Birmingham-area cities to make the list, along with Calera.
Madison, a larger city in the Huntsville metro area, was No. 9. It grew by 2.4% - an impressive feat for a city of its size. It’s the ninth largest city in Alabama, and by far the largest city on the top 10 fastest-growing list.Several of the cities that ranked among Alabama’s fastest-growing for percentage change also ranked highly when looking at which cities added the most people in a year.
