Joe French was watching a TODAY segment in 2020 featuring teenagers in need of adoption and called over his husband, Matt Bungo, as soon as he saw young Samuel on the show. It was that moment the future-dads knew they wanted to be Samuel’s forever home.

Ryan and Sara Senters of Phoenix, Arizona, have a 2-year-old son ... and a 2-year-old grandchild. 'We're grandparents at 40,' Ryan laughs, explaining that his oldest adopted daughter — Pima, 26 — has a toddler son. 'Our 2-year-old son and our 2-year-old grandson are best friends and enemies.' It's no surprise that the path to creating their family hasn't been a traditional one.

The Senters took the kids on a trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, to see snow for the first time. As the kids smiled broadly amidst snowball fights and sledding trips, Ryan and Sara looked at each other and thought, 'They're kids who deserve to have a family.' But the decision to expand their family by five wasn’t an easy one. 'I was up all night, in angst and praying,' Ryan says.
