Mike Gallagher, John Clamp and Carlton Soules reportedly are urging him to focus on his rehabilitation and not campaign for another term.
Embroiled District 10 Counciman Clayton Perry makes his first appearance at City Council on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 about two months after he took leave following a drunk driving charge in November.
Gallagher said former District 10 council members Christopher “Chip” Haass and Jimmy Hasslocher have also talked to Perry. Hasslocher was a councilman in the 1980s and 90s, and Haass served from 2003 to 2007. Perry unexpectedly returned to City Council on Jan. 12, less than a week before council and mayoral candidates could begin filing for places on the May ballot. It was a move that had some thinking he was trying to scare off any potential challengers.
Gallagher said the group would like to see Perry run for another elected position in the future — after his rehabilitation. “I think that Marc Whyte is the most qualified individual to fill in for Councilman Perry,” Gallagher said. “He’s got the big picture view of the district.” Ezra Johnson — an energy attorney, former administrative law judge and one-time VIA Metropolitan Transit trustee — is also thinking about running for District 10.
