We ran a survey asking if WASPI women should be compensated for the disputed state pension age change. More than 2,700 people responded, with a staggering 97% saying women should be compensated, however there were also 61 people speaking out against it:
As a new Prime Minister was set to be elected earlier this month, we asked readers if they thought one of the new PM’s first jobs should be to address the controversial WASPI campaign.
One reader branded the women calling for compensation “selfish boomers”. They said: “These entitled women are owed nothing from the state and should have planned for their retirement . And another reader said while it was unfair that women found out very late they could not retire at 60, a different solution should have been found. They said: “They should have lowered the men’s age to 63 and put women’s pension to 63, that would have been fair. It would free jobs for the younger generation.”
Another reader emphasized how different expectations were for women in the previous decades. They said: “It was a different era, people went to a state school and left at 16 to commence a working life. Another woman also drew attention to the inequalities women faced in the workplace, which put them at a disadvantage. She said: “Speaking personally I was not allowed to join my company pension fund until I was 25, the men could join at 18.
