An urgent warning has just been issued for Android users tricked into installing malicious apps on their devices, apps that pretend to be some of the most popular apps in the world.Just as Apple opens its iPhone to third-party app stores and direct downloads, here comes another warning as to the hidden dangers for users where the protection around their devices is lowered.
As ESET’s Jake Moore told me, “downloading and installing a malicious app on your phone can lead to a number of disasters, including theft of personal data, compromise of banking information, poor device performance, intrusive adware and even spyware monitoring your conversations and messages.
Stick to official app stores—don’t use third-party stores and never change your device’s security settings to enable an app to load; also ensure Google Play Protect is enabled on your device.
