Houses in Dignowity Hill and the South Side are recognized for their architecture and history.

The former home of poet Josephine Haltom Henning is"one of the most impressive extant examples in San Antonio of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture," according to the home's application with the Department of the Interior."This early Spanish Colonial residence, with its beautiful open timber roofs, stuccoed walls, and projecting balconies, embodies the most characteristic elements of the style.

In the L-shaped building's long history, it's been used as a private residence, a private hospital and an apartment complex. The entire structure has undergone considerable alterations since its construction 121 years ago. That includes a long entrance hall on the west side and a second-story studio on the other side added in 1925. However, the building's original included a main two-story house that was connected with the carriage house, stables and servants quarters.

The home was built by Page, a native of Washington, D.C., and prominent architect. While in San Antonio, Page designed the International and Great Northern Railroad Station and a number of public and private buildings. He designed five houses on Crescent Street in Alamo Heights, where he lived. However, the Clegg House was one of his favorites, and it was modeled after his similarly styled home on Crescent Street.
