Ahsoka avoids Obi-Wan Kenobi's biggest error.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT There's one reason why Ahsoka has been able to avoid a mistake made in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both series have been filmed using technology named the Volume, a 360-degree LED screen stage complete with a ceiling to match. First used for The Mandalorian, this revolutionary technology still has its limitations.
In speaking with Cinema Blend, Ahsoka writer and executive producer Dave Filoni detailed his caution with using the Volume. I’m fortunate to have been on the ground floor of [the Volume], and having experienced it with my team, I know when it works and when it doesn’t work. There are certain situations where you absolutely want to use it, and there are certain situations where it’s better to do it on a regular stage with blue screen. There are certain situations where you just want to go outside. You have to just know and trust your team for when is the right time to use it.
While the question posed addressed his upcoming "Mandoverse" film, it still greatly speaks to how Filoni understood the Volume technology for Ahsoka, as well. He specifically mentions knowing the difference between when a scene calls for a traditional blue screen stage or an outdoor location compared to the LED build of the Volume, which is something that has already been reflected in Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2.
Dave Filoni Knows How To Use The Volume In Ahsoka Filoni was there when this technology was first used in The Mandalorian season 1, where it saw incredible success even during its trial period. His experience of filmmaking with the Volume has taught him how to be more cautious of overusing it, as he was able to complete two additional seasons of The Mandalorian as well as The Book of Boba Fett before taking the lead with it on Ahsoka.
