One thing is for certain, the people of Dublin and Ireland love Luke Kelly. So much so that the man has not one, but two statues of him around the capital.
On 30 January 2019, Dublin City Council unveiled two separate sculptures, on either side of the Liffey, of Luke Kelly, the legendary musician, social activist and singer with The Dubliners. Now a documentary on RTÉ on Back Holiday Monday evening will tell the story of how the people of Dublin ended up with two very contrasting sculptures of the Dubliners founder member.
Rather than choosing between the two sculptures, Dublin City Council put one in Sheriff Street, where Kelly was born, and the other in South King Street, close to where he performed regularly. The documentary promises plenty of Dubliners tunes, interviews with family and friends and plenty for fans of Luke Kelly to sink their teeth into.So hit PLAY!So say Dion Fanning, Paddy McKenna and Noz Choudry on The Football Spin... HIT PLAY.
