Supernatural star Misha Collins provides some optimism despite The Winchesters' cancellation. Although The CW cancelled the series in May 2023, The Winchesters' executive producer and narrator Jensen Ackles had pushed for the Supernatural prequel to find a new home. Despite the #SaveTheWinchesters campaign, those efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful, and the series was declared dead in June 2023.
Why The Winchesters Failed To Find A New Home The CW's new owners, Nexstar, had shifted away from scripted original programming in favor of acquiring international shows and sports content, resulting in many show cancellations, including The Winchesters.
The efforts to save The Winchesters, which followed Supernatural characters John and Mary in the 1970s, included the recently rebranded Max streaming service owned by the same company Warners Bros. TV, which produces the prequel. Netflix, where Supernatural is available to stream, and Amazon Studios, which has a first-look deal with Jensen and Danneel Ackles, were also considered.
Even with the confirmation that The Winchesters is finished for now, there seems to be an expectation that Supernatural will be revived at some point. Perhaps when the current industry uncertainty resolves, there will be another attempt to resurrect the franchise. In a hopeful sign, actors like Collins sound optimistic that it could happen, and like the characters, the monster-hunting drama has proved resilient.
