The Young Turks will only take ads from brands that align with its values, perhaps a unique stand among online media companies scrambling for revenue. It comes as a group of sites from across the political spectrum announce a new ad-sales alliance.

Share to twitterThe Young Turks CEO and founder Cenk Uygur on set with Executive Producer and host Ana Kasparian., the long-time left-leaning online media site, said it will only take advertising dollars from companies that align with its own values.

"The third bucket's the one I’m most interested in," Uygur said."Now we’re having a conversation that creates a win-win for our audience, for us, and for the advertiser." The Turks also created an email address, [email protected], where audience members can submit brands they believe would be appropriate for the show.

For instance, outdoor-clothing company Patagonia has weighed in repeatedly on climate change issues. Apple has been a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, led by CEO Tim Cook, who came out publicly a few years ago. On the conservative side, companies such as Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A close on Sundays.

Uygur acknowledged that the Turks have some flexibility that other media companies might not, thanks to its substantial subscription revenues. Advertising provides only about a third of the company's revenues, and a big portion of that is served up programmatically through Google and Facebook.
