Four teams finishing with identical records and a district title split four ways is not something that happens often.
The Woodlands added two big insurance runs in the top of the seventh and prevailed 14-11 under a blazing sun Saturday afternoon . The Woodlands advances to the regional semifinals for the second straight year and seventh time in the last decade. Down 17-7 Friday night, The Woodlands scored six times in the bottom of the seventh before it ended. It wasn’t enough on the scoreboard for a sweep. But it was enough to keep their confidence up.
“They’re a good team,” Zusi, who also homered Friday, said. “We knew we had to be tough on ‘D’. Every run mattered. Even though we were up 6-0, we knew we had to keep on scoring.” Grand Oaks got two runs back in the first and then tied in the second a 6-6. Allie Hagebusch brought in two runs and Morgan Yeager followed with a first-pitch two-run double of her own to knot it up. Kaet Dunbar had an RBI sacrifice fly.
