.des_linden spoke her mind about technology in running shoes, doping, and whether she will participate in the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. nycmarathon
Linden is in favor of the sport’s governing body putting some limits on what’s inside the shoes.“It’s super frustrating that someone has an amazing race and we go, ‘What are they wearing?’” she said. “It’s not just the athlete anymore, it’s not just the conditions, it’s what shoes are they in? So it adds an element we have to consider after it. It’s just a lot of questions now. I think there should be some regulation.
Arbitrators who ruled in Salazar’s case issued a 140-page ruling explaining their findings. His defenders say he was snagged on technicalities; he went right to the limits of what anti-doping rules permit and tried to stay within them. His detractors say he violated the spirit of the sport if not the letter of the law., the fundamental question for any athlete is why he or she is in running in the first place.
“It is to win by any means necessary? Win at all cost?” she asked. “Or is it to find out how good you can be, testing yourself?” She fits into the latter camp. For her, running is about finding her limits. “It’s not,” she said, “a science experiment.”
