'The only wedding I have ever been to where the bride just looked sad the whole time. All in all, it was a very depressing wedding.'

to share their wildest stories about grooms not being on their best behavior leading up to or on the wedding day. Here are the cringiest stories that'll make you wonder how"I do" even happened:"Bartended for a wedding a few years ago.

I never once served the groom, and yet he was slurring through his vows. Girls were coming up to the bar, talking about how drunk the groom was and how he was hitting on all of them. They moved up the time to send off the couple since he was getting worse as the night went on. As they tried to get him into the car, he turned into an. He started swinging at everyone near him, throwing them to the ground. The bride is yelling, and mom is screaming. Over the next half hour, most of the men tried to wrestle him down, but he landed and hit everyone. I finally called the cops, and he turned into a tame puppy the second they arrived. The bride took off before the cops even got there. He got to sober up in the hospital, escorted by police. The groom had punched his best man , his father-in-law, and his best friend's mom by accident. He lost his bride, his job, and his friends all on his wedding night." "I was an event director for a wedding where the groom was an A-hole throughout the entire process. The couple chose the most expensive caterer, whom I had worked with many times. They were always top-tier. When we had the couple in to choose the linens for the tables, the color of the napkins, etc., the groom was negative about the linens possibly having wrinkles. He was assured by the rep for the caterer and me that they were always professionally cleaned and would look beautiful. The day of, before the vows, they arrived, and he immediately high-tailed it to the reception room, where the staff was busy setting up. He stopped short at a table, exclaiming, 'I KNEW it! Wrinkled!' Everyone just stopped." "The bride looked like she had dissociated. He then manically walked in circles, rubbing his forehead, and fuming to himself about the damn tablecloths! I was there, they were NOT wrinkled. There were small fold marks because these tablecloths were for tables of ten, so they were huge and had to be folded somewhat for transport. He demanded a discount unless we produced a steamer and steamed them before the reception. He wouldn't calm down. I felt bad for the bride. He put a damper on the day, and the staff, who are usually very friendly, avoided him and remained serious all evening. What a total weirdo!""I was an event manager at a rooftop venue in Chicago and dreading this one upcoming wedding. From the time I did this couple's tasting, my first thought was, 'this poor woman has until August to get out.' The groom was so rude to me, our sales manager, and his bride. He was so unbelievably rude to strangers. The day of the wedding, the groom showed up, and his surprise ice sculpture wasn't delivered and placed hours before his party started. He was furious that it wasn't melting in the sun, waiting for him, and called that vendor to yell at them. The rooftop was set for the dinner and reception. He spent his time walking through and touching everything, as if we didn't have 500 weddings under our belt.""He grabbed one of the servers and barked at them to get rid of the table numbers because everyone needed to stand and socialize during cocktail hour, and why wasn't ice water out 90 minutes before anyone sat down? The bridal party lined up for their procession, and before he walks down the aisle, the groom turns and snaps, 'Why aren't my table numbers out?!' and freaks out that we followed his request. We were hoping that getting through the ceremony would calm him down. Maybe he'd be less angry after he ate some food with his friends and loved ones, but it didn't matter." "They ordered late-night Portillo's for 9 p.m and it was late getting to us. At 9:01 p.m. I found him hiding in a stairwell on the phone, shouting at whoever answered that his food was late. He waited at the front door to shout at the delivery driver, 'I would have tipped if you were on time!' That night could not end soon enough. I still think about that bride. I hope she got out.""Wedding musician here. I was playing a jazz gig at the reception, and during our first break, the groom decided to treat everyone to a demonstration of his heavy-metal drumming skills. Our drummer had to be physically restrained from decking him, while the groom was outraged to learn that he wasn't allowed to muck about on the kit. I mean, it was his wedding, am I right?" "My cousin threw a dude out a window when he got married. The guy was fine, if not a little shaken up." "Wedding caterer here. Groomzilla is uncommon, but not unheard of. I had a groom who freaked out that we didn't have nice enough barware and spent $8,000 on brand-new glasses. He threw a tantrum when I refused to buy them from him when we were settling the bill." "The only notable groom I can think of is the poor sod who passed out when it was his turn to say 'I do.' All very dramatic, turns out he was just super nervous." "I attended a wedding where the groom got pissed at every guy in the room for looking at his bride, and even tried to start a few fights over it. Later, it came out that he was highly abusive . We had to break into their house to help her leave him." "I heard about a wedding where the groom flipped out because the rented limo that showed up was a Lincoln and not a Cadillac. He refused to get in the limo and ended up being driven to his wedding in a friend's pickup truck." "I had one groom who surprised everyone with a long and awkward skit with inside jokes that only he and two of the 200 guests were privy to. He then decided he'd top that off with an amateur drum solo to a slideshow of photos of his childhood pet. The bride's family cleared out before dessert was done." "A groomzilla stalked about the entire night, fussing with the table settings, adjusting centerpieces, and complaining to service staff that this person or that didn't have a full glass. His father told him to cut it out and let us do our jobs, and then he sat and sulked the rest of the evening." "Time to tell my story. So, my sister asked me to be her maid of honor. To be quite honest, my sister and I never really got along well, but I figured it would be the right thing to do given the fact that I'm her only sister. Her asshole of a fiancé didn't have many friends , so he asked my S.O. to be one of his groomsmen. My S.O. loves me very much, so I know he accepted, mostly for my sake. Fast forward a bit, and the groomzilla decides he's going to pick out a rental for the guys without discussing the price with them first. So he ends up picking a rental that's $200. Now, maybe that might not be a lot for some of you, but for my S.O., it was a lot." "My S.O. told him that it was too much and asked if there was a possibility to discuss another option. Groomzilla ignored his calls and texts. A month passes, and my S.O. decides he's going to wear a tux he already owns that looks almost exactly like the one Groomzilla picked out, and that he would rent just the accessories to match. He texted Groomzilla and told him that's what he did. All of a sudden, he responds with, 'LOL, are you kidding me?! This is my wedding, and everyone is supposed to match. You don't get to wear what you feel like.' He calls my S.O. and tells him that it is now his fault that he has to pay $800 for his tux because he was supposed to get a discount when the groomsmen rented their suits. My S.O. told him that if it was that important to him, he should have discussed the price with them, and also, he shouldn't have ignored his calls when he tried to talk to him about it.""Well, he got all kinds of nasty on the phone and hung up. One hour later, he texts him, 'You are no longer a groomsman.' So now my sister thinks we're the devil because Groomzilla, of course, twisted the truth in his favor. I told my sister I had made a promise to her: if she still wanted me there, I would go to the church. However, I could not go to the reception without my partner because it would feel awkward for me. She said she would call me back to let me know whether she wanted me there. That was a month ago, and I still haven't heard from her. He has also emailed me twice, telling me what a terrible sister I am and that he never kicked my S.O. out of the wedding. He's managed to lose two groomsmen and his best man so far because he's so terrible." "I was the best man, and the groom started freaking out about his hair. So what did he do? Started shaving it off. I stopped him before he got too far. He put a hat on for the ceremony." "I used to be an event coordinator. We had one groomzilla who sat down at the menu tasting and immediately said, 'This salad dressing won't do. This one is too runny, and this one is too thick.' It was completely standard Italian and Ranch dressing. The rest of the wedding planning went like that." "I was at my high school best friend's wedding. I have known them both for decades. During the speeches at the start of dinner, he started freaking out about how hot it was. Eventually, he was yelling at the top of his lungs that it was his wedding and he was too damn hot. He starts tearing off his suit jacket like it's strangling him. The speeches stopped, and everyone had to get up and open the tent's side walls. It was an outdoor wedding. Everyone just sits there in awkward silence until the wedding party returns to the table. Groom says, 'Good, it's my wedding, and I was too hot,' smiles, sits down, and nods to the MC like that was a totally normal thing to do. Alcohol wasn't involved either — that was a totally sober decision on his part. Also, the only wedding I have ever been to where the bride just looked sad the whole time. All in all, it was a very depressing wedding."What's your wildest"groomzilla" experience? Share your story in the comments, or submit anonymously using the form below.
