After the cancellation of Prime Video's live-action The Wheel of Time, iwot Studios is partnering with Thomas Vu and Initiate Entertainment to launch new animated films, a TV series, and a video game, aiming to faithfully expand Robert Jordan's fantasy universe.

Over a year ago, Prime Video's sci-fi series The Wheel of Time was canceled after its third season, a decision reported as financial by Deadline.

Fans were surprised because the series, based on Robert Jordan's 14-book saga, had significantly improved, earning a 97% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its final season. However, the cancellation has opened a new path for the intellectual property. As of March, iwot Studios, which holds the rights to Jordan's novels, announced a partnership with Thomas Vu, known for Arcane and League of Legends, and Anthony Borquez's Initiate Entertainment.

The collaboration will produce a new video game, animated feature films, and an animated television series, aiming to revitalize the franchise. These new animated and interactive formats are seen as better suited to adapt Jordan's expansive world-building than the live-action series. Though Prime Video's production was costly and faced COVID-19 delays, animation and games can more closely follow the source material at a lower cost.

Thomas Vu emphasized the opportunity to expand the universe into "fully authentic, integrated, interactive, and animated storytelling experiences," noting the depth of the mythology as a foundation for multi-platform growth. iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage praised Vu's ability to scale narrative worlds into global franchises, citing his background at the intersection of storytelling, technology, and franchise architecture. The reboot through animation and gaming could give The Wheel of Time a fresh start, offering fans a more faithful and immersive exploration of the source material.

While the live-action series had its strengths, the new direction aligns with the epic scale of Jordan's novels, potentially reaching a broader audience and sustaining the franchise across multiple media. This strategic shift reflects a trend in adapting complex fantasy worlds where animation and interactivity can overcome the limitations of live-action production
