Western Cape Local Government MEC Anton Bredell has instituted an investigation into the affairs of the Garden Route District Municipality after an assessment found that senior managers have benefitted from unlawful payments.
Bredell issued a notice, in terms of Section 106 of the Municipal Systems Act, which gives him the power to appoint an investigating team when allegations of fraud, corruption, maladministration, or nepotism are made. Among the allegations include a complaint lodged with the municipality by public interest group, the Garden Route Corruption Busters, that Monde Stratu, the municipal manager, was earning R4 803 534.
