The Weeknd has made the difficult decision to postpone his upcoming concert at the Rose Bowl and the release of his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, in light of the catastrophic wildfires ravaging Los Angeles. The Weeknd has postponed his upcoming concert and the release of his latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, in response to the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the greater Los Angeles area. The Canadian singer-songwriter, 34, announced the postponement in a statement shared via Instagram on Monday, January 13. The concert, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 25, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, has been canceled.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, explained his decision, stating, “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.” Wildfires began sweeping through Los Angeles on January 7, fueled by high winds that rapidly spread brush fires through the Pacific Palisades and surrounding neighborhoods. The fires have already claimed the lives of at least 25 people, with the death toll expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. Over 12,000 structures have been destroyed, and more than 150,000 people have been placed under mandatory evacuation orders. The wildfires have forced the postponement or cancellation of several industry events in California. These include the Critics Choice Awards, which was rescheduled from Sunday, January 12, to Sunday, January 26. Movie premieres such as “Unstoppable” (starring Jennifer Lopez), “Wolf Man,” “The Pitt,” “The Last Showgirl,” and “A Complete Unknown” have also been canceled. The Academy has delayed the announcement of Oscar nominations to Thursday, January 23, in response to the crisis.Film LA, a nonprofit organization, issued a production alert on January 8, informing the film industry that filming permits in Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge, and Unincorporated Pasadena had been revoked. The alert emphasized the significant risk to life and property posed by the wildfires and the strain on public safety personnel. It advised the production community that resources normally allocated to film production may be diverted to support emergency response efforts. The organization urged individuals to check the LAFD website for local wildfire alerts and provided links to resources for assisting those affected by the disaster
