Both political leaders have pledged more cash for preschools and schools as the election race enters its final 10 days.
Mr Minns kicked off Tuesday in Heathcote and East Hills with a $22 million pre-school education pledge, the premier turned out in East Hills to announce an expanded financial literacy program and to spruik the party’s $850 millionWith Labor holding a lead in the published opinion polls, Mr Minns said the party wasn’t taking anything for granted as he appeared at Condell Park pre-school in East Hills to announce a new commitment to boost scholarships and grants for pre-school educators.
Mr Minns was more reluctant to name a preferred site, as Newcastle remains in the frame as a possible location.“Obviously, it’s a Commonwealth responsibility, and I imagine ... both Port Kembla and Newcastle will be bidding for the port to be in their communities.”Mr Minns started the day with a street walk in Engadine alongside Labor’s candidate, Australian Conservation Foundation organiser Maryanne Stuart.
As the state election approaches, Labor has pledged a police station upgrade and promised to assess train timetables and capacity for a sizeable population in the electorate commuting into the CBD each day.On Station Street in Engadine, several residents walking through the suburb’s shopping village toldthey hadn’t yet turned their minds to voting in the poll, but listed poor quality roads and overcrowded trains as the biggest issues.

‘Desperate last grab’: Perrottet’s nest egg policy slammed ahead of state electionDominic Perrottet’s announced nest egg policy is a “desperate last grab” from a “desperate, dying government” ahead of the NSW state election, says City of Sydney’s Labor Councillor Linda Scott.
