Wander along a cobbled street from a different era and take a peek through real-life historical shop windows
Salford’s Chapel Street has been something of a development hotspot in recent years with blocks and flats springing up and a thriving food and drink scene. Yet hidden away in a museum at the end of the road is a very different street to the one outside.
Among the exhibitions is Lark Hill Place, an authentic recreation of a Victorian Street which instantly transports you back in time. The life-size street features original shop fronts and objects which instantly immerse you in daily life in Salford all those years ago.Lark Hill Place is named after the mansion house built on the site of the museum by James Ackers in around the 18th or 19th centuries.
Visitors can peek through the shop windows, each one inspired by a real-life business. There’s a corner shop, a tobacconist, dressmaker, and even a shop for bleeding with leeches - yes, you read that correctly.
