.Simone_Biles now has the most world championship medals of any female gymnast in history.
won her 21st medal at the world gymnastics championships in Stuttgart, Germany, on Tuesday, breaking her tie with Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina for most medals won overall by a woman at the world championships.
The 22-year-old gymnast is now in possession of her 15th career gold medal, and she’s just two away from having the most medals of anyone—male or female—at the world championships, an accomplishment she could achieve this week when she competes in the women’s all-around final on Thursday. Biles also earned four gold medals and one bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first female U.S. gymnast to earn four golds at one Games.
The United States women’s national gymnastics team narrowly beat out Russia to retain their all-around title at the world championships, but Biles was the real story of the night.
“Every year it feels better and better just because we’re adding to the legacy,” said Biles, adding, “I feel like I never think of records. I just go out there and do what I came to do, which is compete for the country.”Most Popular
