As a Quinn-Fender, I couldn't believe my ears. The noise was coming from inside my own house. Before I left for the Cotton Bowl, my wife asked me a pretty blunt question: When did you become Quinn Ewers' agent? It got to a point I was having to Quinn-fend myself, even in my home. Not because of anything Quinn Ewers was doing wrong per se. It was really because the outside noise and expectations had become off-the-charts ridiculous.

Maybe it's just a loud minority that found a way to get their word spread. Maybe the majority of Texas fans really did appreciate him.More important to him, he leaves after making a lasting impact on the players. Quiet and short in interviews with the media, Ewers grew into his role as leader of the Texas football program, taking that final step this year inside the locker room. He let his faith define him, not his play, and in the end, that helped him guide Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances. In my final Quinn-fense, this was never about anointing Quinn Ewers as the best quarterback to ever play here.
