NASA launched the rover Opportunity to Mars in 2003 on a mission to find evidence of ancient water. The robot also accomplished something major back on Earth—winning people’s hearts.
The new documentary film “Good Night Oppy” tells the story of a six-wheeled, solar-powered explorer with cute looks and pluck. The bot’s designers hoped the machine and its twin, named Spirit, would function on the red planet for 90 days. Spirit lasted more than six years. Opportunity trucked along for 15.
