As the Tampa Bay Rays look for a championship, their front office is on another mission: trying to come up with a plan to play half of their future home games in Montreal
While the Tampa Bay Rays prepared late last week for a playoff run they hope will bring home a title, team president Brian Auld was telling a group of local residents of his desire to radically change what “home” means.
Hours before the Rays won their 99th game of the season last Friday, Auld was at Oxford Exchange, a popular restaurant, bookstore and event space, addressing a crowd at the Café con Tampa speaker series. There, he outlined the Rays’ vision to soon move half of their home games to Montreal, a foreign city located 1,500 miles away. He doesn’t think the team can survive solely in the Tampa Bay area much longer.
