This article explores the experience of an employee who, despite working for a seemingly great company, is consistently overburdened and undervalued. It highlights the company's tendency to exploit the employee's dedication and skills, leaving them with little time for personal life or even basic benefits.

My company offers great perks like good pay, generous PTO, a fun work environment, and a good work-life balance . The product itself has a lot of growth potential, and most employees consider it a great place to work. However, I'm an outlier. Despite the good pay and friendly colleagues, I'm often left out of these perks. While some coworkers experience varying levels of stress, I'm burdened with mission-critical, inflexible tasks requiring daily attention, leaving me unable to take any PTO.

Furthermore, I'm relied upon for specialized design and problem-solving that necessitates deep, uninterrupted focus, often pushing my work into weekends. Meanwhile, others enjoy vacations and have time for breaks and casual conversations during the workday. Over the years, I've repeatedly raised concerns about my workload and its potential risks to the company and my well-being. Initially, promises of relief are made, and sometimes improvements occur. But my situation invariably deteriorates. For example, after approval for additional staff, things might improve, but another crisis arises. Upper management might overpromise to a client, a key employee might quit, or a supplier might falter. As a result, I'm often called upon to fix these situations, becoming the company's go-to rescuer. Due to my broad skillset and reliability, I'm inevitably caught in this cycle. While I initially stayed for job security, pay, and potential early retirement through stock options, the cost of carrying this burden far outweighs the benefits. It feels like the company is taking advantage of my dedication and emotional investment, expecting me to endlessly sacrifice my time. They tell others that I'm deeply committed to their mission, but simultaneously tell me to take PTO while acknowledging that I'm overloaded. They seemingly believe that I'll continue to shoulder this burden, despite my pleas for help
