“Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap echoes from a staticky radio as he drags a metal folding chair across the concrete floor, then takes a seat next to his longtime friend, William Roccaforte, 38, and his ex-father-in-law, Scott Richhoff, 69. They fall into conversation easily, talking over one another and trading wisecracks with the cadence of schoolyard taunts.
They also do odd jobs for big clients: A metal shim Lang made is currently in space aboard a Motorola satellite, and he once built a metal lattice to be adorned with flowers for an exhibit at the de Young Museum. “I’ve made [branding irons] for humans. I’ve made S&M masks,” Lang says. “A lot of shops, you call and you ask for something like that, they’re like, ‘What? We’re not doing that.’ I’m like, ‘Come down!’”
