Great Central Railway is the UK's only main-line heritage railway
Nottinghamshire is full of stunning countryside and while there are hundreds of amazing locations we go to spend some more time with nature, some of the best views of our county's stunning landscapes can only be seen by train. Just 30 minutes from Nottingham, you can find the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire, which is the UK's only main-line heritage railway.
Since then a double track section from Loughborough Central to Rothley and a single track to Leicester North have been reinstated. The popular tourist attraction is still thriving today, with everything from stations, signal boxes, carriages and wagons being restored during decades of hard work. There are also experiences available for people to drive a locomotive themselves. If you want to ride in style there are also first-class dining trains offering a world of vintage luxury on board, or there are also some fish and chip trains, where you can enjoy a classic dinner on a steam train.
