Few players in the league can match Sonny Milano's ability to create magic in an instant. In April 2011, when the Washington Capitals winger was 14, he entered a contest to win a pair of skates with a video that showed off— featuring everything from trick shots to juggling pucks.
“I think it’s just pretty natural at this point, because I practice so much,” Milano said. “Once I saw the rolling puck, that was my decision.” Milano completed his first career hat trick in the third period, bringing his goal total to 13 in 38 games this year, which puts him on pace for a career-high 17. He signed a— a bargain for a double-digit goal scorer who plays a consistent role in the middle six and contributes on the power play. Plus-minus is an imperfect metric, but it’s worth noting that on a team with an overall goal differential of minus-30, Milano is a team-best plus-seven.
