Amid a cost-of-living crisis, Australians are earning up to $4000 a month in supplementary income through side hustles on online marketplaces such as Airtasker. Among them is Frank Hoyt, 40, a panel-beater by trade, who travels around Australia fixing hail-damaged cars. But as his day job slows he has turned to Airtasker, where he earns an extra $4000 a month painting and plastering homes or through other handy work.
The number of Australians taking on multiple jobs is on the rise, with 974,000 people or 6.7 per cent of employed people now reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics as multiple job-holders. Women were more likely to have multiple jobs, with 7.3 per cent of employed women falling into this group compared with 6 per cent of employed men. Workers aged 20 to 24 years old are the most likely to be working multiple jobs, with 7.3 per cent reported by the ABS.
