I can’t whistle. It was a source of huge frustration as a kid when helpful people would blithely say, “Oh, you just do this,” apparently kiss the air in front of them, and serenade themselves with a pure and deeply mysterious musical note.
I huffed and puffed for hours, but I only ever sounded like a punctured bike tire, so I gave up. But apparently everyone is physically capable of whistling, and some have turned it into an art form: The Global Whistling Champion for 2020 has just been crowned by the International Whistlers’ Guild.
