One of Carlisle's major events venues has cancelled 'the vast majority' of shows until at least the end of 2024. It comes as a huge blow only weeks after RAAC concerns were found in the auditorium.
In a statement issued on Friday , a spokesperson for The Sands Centre said: "Following the announcement that The Sands Centre Auditorium will remain closed for an extended period, we regret to inform you that we are in the process of cancelling the vast majority of shows scheduled for the remainder of 2023 and up until the end of 2024.
Following the auditorium's closure in September, a Cumberland Council spokesperson said: “Following the recent change in government guidance on the use of RAAC in buildings, a detailed assessment of The Sands’ events space is continuing. RAAC concrete has been identified in the roof of the events centre and action needs to be taken by the council to ensure the safe use of the auditorium.
