The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s longest-running and most significant annual fundraiser, providing essential support for many of the organization’s key programs.
Skylar Celeste Boone The Red Kettle Campaign, the longest-running and most significant annual fundraiser of The Salvation Army, will kick off Thursday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the kettle drive and Angel Tree at 1001 S. Bell St. in Dothan.
“The kettle campaign dates back to 1891 when a Salvation Army Captain used a crab pot to collect funds in San Francisco for the destitute,” said Major Linda Payton of the Dothan Salvation Army. “The Red Kettle has grown to be the most recognized charitable campaign worldwide.” “We use these funds to finance a large portion of our work throughout the year,” Major Payton said. “When someone donates to a Red Kettle, they are helping support their neighbors right here in Southeastern Alabama, not just for the holiday, but Beyond Christmas.”
With the rise of cashless and online transactions, The Salvation Army is embracing new options to assist donors as they give back. Residents can now seamlessly contribute online at dothankettle.org or at the kettles using a variety of options including credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or Venmo.
