Gone are the days of vehicle safety inspections for everyday vehicles. Beginning January 1, they will no longer be required for most drivers."Honestly, it’s a little bit of a relief because we don’t have a lot of time in the day," said Jacob Block, as he dropped off one of his company vehicles for a safety inspection.
Last year, Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill into law that ends the Vehicle Safety Inspection Program for non-commercial vehicles. These inspections check multiple components on a car to make sure they are working properly, including your breaks, horn, and seat belts. Brad recommends still getting an inspection after the new year.
CBS Austin reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety for an interview. They were unavailable."In addition, the taxpayers of Texas are also gonna bear the cost of having to cover increased first responders, police, the firemen and EMS that go respond to those wrecks," said Bonilla.
