S&P 500 stands less than 10 points from a closing record midday, as stock market extends climb
The S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite on Tuesday were within a hair's breadth of closing records, last hit in in the fall, as a rebound in the health-care and gains in the consumer-discretionary sectors brought the benchmarks to the brink of all-time highs. At last check, the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.71% was up 0.7%, or 22 points, at 2,929, just off its closing high at 2,930.75 put in on Sept. 20.
