Even those of us who love sport may have found the build-up to this quadrennial event a tad underwhelming. It has certainly felt muted from a sponsorship and brand perspective compared with previous competitions. And there’s a tangible lack of narrative in the media around theIt’s partly because few people give England any chance of winning the competition. At the time of writing, the team was the sixth favourite to lift the trophy.
Indeed, there seems to be a wider malaise around English rugby in 2023, and even towards “brand rugby” on the world stage too.
