Here is The Arizona Republic's All-Arizona girls track and field team and the boys coach of the year. The team also represent the finalists for the Republic's girls track and field athlete of the year, which will be announced at the annual Arizona Sports Awards event on June 11.
Information can be found at She made a huge statement at the Chandler Rotary Invitational in the 100 and 200 dashes, winning both races against competitive fields. She was the Division I state champion in the 100 with and recorded the fastest time in the state at the Chandler City Championships in 11.71 seconds. She ran the fastest 800 time in the state meet at 2 minutes, 12.21 seconds, shaving more than two seconds off of her preliminary time. She won the Chandler Rotary 800 in 2:13.90. She had the state's best javelin throw at 165-6 done at the Hohokam Invitational. In mid-March, she stuck a nation-leading 163-1 at the Arizona Open. She won the Division I state title at 145-7.Ran the 3200 in 10:28.59 at the Desert Vista Last Chance. It ended up being the fastest time in the state. She won the Division II state title in the 3200 and was seventh in the 1600. She was third in the 3200 at the Chandler Rotary.She was top 25 in the state in six different events, including the long jump with a state-best 19 feet, 9 inches at the Brophy meet in April. At that same meet, she had the state's best seven-event heptathlon mark with 4956 points. The heptathlon is in her college future.She threw the discus the farthest this season at 147-7 at the Top of the Mountain Invitational. She won the Division II state title in the discus. She was fourth at state in the shot put at 35-6.She led her team to the Division II championship. She had the state's fastest 400 time at 55.54 seconds. She also had the fastest 300 hurdles time at 41.47 seconds at the state championships. She also won the state title in the long jump and was second in the 100 hurdles and second in the 200. She contributed 36 points in state. She also won the 300 hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational in California, one of the most competitive competitions in the nation.She had a state-tying 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to win the Chandler Rotary title. She won five invitationals in the pole vault and was third at state. She ran the fastest 1600 in the state at 4:48.55 in her first meet of the season at Desert Vista in last February. She was third at state in the 3200.She had the best 100 hurdles time in 13.73 in the Division II preliminaries. She won the state title in 13.90. She set a personal record in the state preliminaries in the 300 hurdles in 42.38. She finished second to Moorer in the finals at 43.34.She had the best triple jump in the state, leaping 39 feet, 5 inches at the Chandler Rotary. She leaped 37-9 for fifth place at the state meet, but gave the Pumas valuable points on way to winning the Division I team championship.She ran one of the most shocking races in the state championships, winning the D. Chandler had won the past five state championships and 13 of the last 14, before Perry won its first ever state title in girls track and field with 87 points. Chandler was second with 74. He started out at Perry in 2017 as the boys distance track coach and took over as head girls track and field coach in 2018. Before that, he was the head girls track coach at Higley from 2010-16. "This season, we had a couple of injuries to key athletes early in the season and they were able to get their injuries under control by state," Idleman said."Taylor Lovell had pulled her hamstring and Alexis Pagel also had hamstring issues. "Brenna Rodriguez was nursing an injured quadriceps muscle in her leg, Kristyna Mlejnkova, our exchange student, fractured her lower leg at the state cross country meet and was still going to physical therapy. And Sydney Stevens had back and hip issues early on. "By the end of the season, most were healthy and ready to go. Brenna’s learning curve was fast and she really started clicking in triple jump by the Chandler Rotary. Avery Clark continued to improve each meet in hurdles, dropping time throughout the season. She had two PR’s in high jump at the end of the season, including the state meet where she tied for first. "What stood out to me about this group is their determination and dedication. Most seniors had been with us since their freshman year. All are driven to improve and be the best."
