In Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars: Purge - The Tyrant's Fist, it is revealed why the Jedi are not remembered in the original Star Wars trilogy.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Any Star Wars fan knows that Emperor Palpatine eradicated the Jedi Order with Order 66, followed by the spread of propaganda throughout the galaxy asserting Jedi were traitors and terrorists. However, even if the Jedi became villains in the Star Wars galaxy, they’d still assuredly be remembered by the time of the events of the original trilogy - but they’re not.

Close One of the more extreme actions the Empire took was approaching family members of Force-sensitive people/aliens who were taken by the Jedi Order during the Age of the Republic, and forcing them to change their family names, as those names became ‘restricted’. However, that was far from all the Empire did, as it also destroyed monuments and parks dedicated to the Jedi, and replaced those spaces with schools and resource centers for Vaklin civilians.

Emperor Palpatine Did More Than Kill All the Jedi, He Erased Them From History Darth Vader’s mission on Vaklin by the order of Emperor Palpatine is just one example of what was systematically taking place across the Star Wars galaxy. Every system where the Jedi were revered, or where there were plots of insurrection, was dealt with not by the Emperor’s closed fist, but by his open hand.
