Cocaine Bear goes through hikers, campers, park rangers, and anyone in her path on a drug-fueled rampage, but she lets one major character live.
Any character going up against the 500-pound drug-fueled black bear in Cocaine Bear isn't likely to leave the national park alive, but there's a reason why she lets one character live. Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear is based on the true story of a mountain bear who ingested cocaine that fell from a smuggler's plane, taking creative liberties with the number of hikers and park rangers that it mowed through while high on several bricks.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Dee Dee and her pal Henry are the first characters in Cocaine Bear to discover millions of dollars worth of white powder in the bushes and decide to try it themselves. This is all the invitation the bear needs to attack them, and in the commotion, the two children are separated from one another. When Sari finally locates Henry, they embark on a hunt for Dee Dee, following her tracks based on spilled paint from her backpack.
The bear also doesn't attack Henry when she sees him again, suggesting that she probably wouldn't have killed him even though he climbed a tree to keep himself safe during her first attack. The children reminded her of her cubs, and she would have likely also taken Henry back to the cave if he hadn't panicked. But, of course, had both children been taken to the cave, it might have been a long time until Sari or anyone else found them.
Cocaine Bear's Ending Continues The Cubs' Parallels To Dee Dee & Henry During the waterfall sequence outside the bear's cave, the bear's cubs become innocently exposed to the cocaine, similar to Dee Dee and Henry taking it in the beginning.
Ultimately, the bear and her cubs are allowed to live , and Sari makes it out of the national forest with Dee Dee and Henry, some of the only survivors of the bear's brutal killing spree. The bonds of motherhood transcend species and prove to be more essential to survival than anything else. If a sequel to Cocaine Bear happens, it will be interesting to see what fate has in store for the bear and her cubs and if they'll ever see Dee Dee and Henry again.
