People line the street waiting for the funeral cortege carrying Queen Elizabeth in the village of Ballater, near Balmoral Castle to begin a six-hour journey from Balmoral Castle’s ballroom to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.Once the Queen’s oak coffin arrives in Edinburgh this evening, it will remain overnight in the Throne Room at Holyroodhouse.
The hearse will travel 175 miles on Sunday through the Scottish Highlands towards Edinburgh, setting off from Balmoral Castle from 10am in a convoy of cars. “When she comes up here, and she goes through those gates, I believe the royal part of her stays mostly outside,” he said. Six of the estate’s gamekeepers will carry the hearse to the hearse, waiting at the entrance of the residence.
Finally, it will move down the full length of the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse by about 4pm
