Featuring love notes penned by members of the queer Black community, the fourth instalment of British Vogue’s Pride 2020 video series celebrates connection in all its forms

Kept apart by the Covid-19 lockdown, members of OKHA, Prim’s queer Black book club, were asked to pen a note, to themselves, to their community, or to the thing “holding them down in quarantine”. The sweet missives, all written by members of the African, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx, Black, queer, trans and non-binary communities, have been compiled into a book,, and three were chosen to be read aloud by the authors for the video.

This year’s Pride events may be confined to virtual spaces and smaller groups, but the unavoidable change has by no means suppressed the loudness of the community. “Pride means community, it means love,” Khloe says. “We are human beings and we come in all our differences and our varieties as individuals. It’s not about tolerance, it’s not about accepting that you know some people are this way. It’s about I am me, and you are you, and both are fine.

Making the film provided an important means of expression for Khloe. “I wrote a love note to myself, and just reminded myself of the people I have around me and how helpful and integral they are to me. It felt really nice to give thanks to the community that supports me through everything.”
