Sharon Chuter, the founder of UomaBeauty, created the challenge in response to posts on blackouttuesday.

at NYFW where she expressed similar sentiments about the makeup of the leadership at many beauty brands:

"Look in-house first. How can you be inclusive and try to represent the rest of the world when there is no diversity on the teams working with you? Look in-house, fix that, and then things will start getting real. You'll stop getting it wrong and you'll stop making those missteps because you have enough people in the room to give you context when you're doing things."

Chuter hopes that this will inspire brands to wake up and realize they should be hiring Black people, not out of obligation, but because it simply, Black women spend around 7.5 billion dollars a year on beauty products. They shell out 80 percent more on cosmetics and twice as much on skin care.\ That representation on a corporate level is more than justified and reasonable.
