One of the most impactful use cases has been the deployment of a generative AI-powered personal research assistant for Verizon’s customer success agents. “This tool helps reduce the cognitive load for our agents by providing quick access to the information they need, which in turn builds a stronger emotional connection with our customers,” Arumugavelu said.
Verizon is also extending the use of generative AI beyond customer service. Arumugavelu shared plans to integrate this technology across different personas within the company, including network agents and the developer community. “Generative AI is becoming a great pair programmer, allowing our developers to be more productive and deliver higher quality code,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Arumugavelu is excited about the convergence of AI and connectivity, particularly the rise of edge AI. “The low latency of our networks, combined with the capabilities of AI, will enable more edge AI solutions,” he said. “This is a big opportunity for us.” He also believes that natural language interfaces, powered by generative AI, will increasingly become the norm, bridging the digital divide and making technology more accessible to all.
As Arumugavelu continues to lead Verizon Global Services, his focus on AI and innovation is set to drive the company forward, while providing examples for others to note as they think about the value that generative AI might drive for their companies.
